If you have been tuning in each week, you know this is the last episode of the reading comprehension mini series. I have talked about various topics that were requested by my listeners or ones I found challenging when I was in the classroom. To end this month’s series I am excited to talk about my favorite nonfiction topic, which is nonfiction text structure.
It wasn’t until I started teaching fourth grade that I even heard of the term nonfiction text structure. I quickly realized how important it is to teach and how it relates to so many different skills needed for nonfiction texts. I explain this in detail as well as tips for explicitly teaching text structure every chance you get! Now that this mini series is finished, head over to my Instagram or Facebook group to let me know which topic you want to hear about next!
In this episode I share:
-
3 reasons why text structure is a critical skill
-
How text structure relates to reading comprehension
-
5 tips for being more purposeful when teaching nonfiction text structure
-
Ways to utilize graphic organizers
