Returning to the classroom after winter break can bring some challenges when it comes to your reading block. Students are out of their normal routine, and may or may not have been reading during their time off of school. As I like to say, it’s possible that your kids have “forgotten how to do school”.
It’s frustrating to feel like all your hard work of nailing down important routines has gone out the window. The good news is that there are several things you can focus on in order to reset your independent reading time so you can quickly gain back momentum! This can also be the perfect opportunity to refine parts of your reading block that weren’t going so well before you left for break.
In this episode I share:
-
5 ways to successfully jump back into independent reading
-
why slowing down to reteach habits and behaviors is crucial
-
how to add excitement to your classroom library
-
the power of praising independent reading efforts
