LET’S BREAK DOWN EACH RESOURCE INCLUDED
This bundle has so many great resources for teaching students to read and write poetry. You could use them all for your Poetry Unit, or you could incorporate them throughout the entire year.
- Poem of the Week – Poem of the week is a super quick and easy way to teach poetry. This weekly routine focuses on helping students improve their reading fluency and reading comprehension. Each day students will complete a “bite-sized” task that will help them dig deep into the poem. They will learn how to analyze word choice, visualize the poem, summarize the poem, and even compare and contrast the poem to an additional text on the same topic as the poem.
- Poetry Lesson Plans– These lessons can serve as the backbone of your poetry unit. While they are perfect for small group instruction, they can also be used whole group to teach your students all the basics when it comes to reading poetry. These lesson plans will also come in handy when preparing your students for their end-of-year state test… which more than likely will have at least one poem on it.
- Poetry Writing Guides – Your students will become confident, independent, and creative writers with these poetry writing guides. These guides walk students through a step-by-step process that will help them learn how to write 9 different types of poems. These work great in a writing center and kids love using them all year long.
- Poetry Anchor Charts– Anchor charts are a staple in upper elementary classrooms and these anchor charts can serve as a great reminder for all the content you are teaching during your poetry unit. Post them on a bulletin board or give students the half-page option that they can glue in their journals.
- Poetry Pennants – These poetry pennants are a fun option to give students when it comes to publishing their poems. Students can draft their poems using the Poetry Writing Guides and then publish them on these Pennants. They make a great classroom display and students love seeing their poems published all around the classroom.
- Poetry Word Wall Cards – There is so much academic vocabulary associated with teaching poetry. Stanza, line brek, speaker, rhyme scheme, meter, and the list goes on. These word wall cards will make it easy for you to create a poetry word wall and will help your students remember all the key terms they learn during your poetry unit.
Just think of all the time you’ll save not having to search for resources or write your own lesson plans for your poetry unit.
