These informational reading passages are the perfect teaching tool for you to use when introducing text structure to your students. There are three different sets of passage and each set includes a passage and questions to help your students understand the following text structures: Cause and Effect, Compare and Contrast, Description, Problem and Solution, and Sequence.

What’s Included?
This resource includes three different sets of nonfiction text structure passages. Each set includes a passage and comprehension questions for each of the five nonfiction text structures.
*There is also a digital version of each reading passage created using Google Slides.
Text Structure Trifolds:
- These trifold brochures are the perfect resource to use when introducing each text structure to your students.
- There is a student friendly definition and explanation of how to identify that text structure
- Inside the trifold is a short passage written in that text structure complete with a graphic organizer and comprehension questions.
- One the back of the trifold are a list of key words along with comprehension questions students can ask when reading independently.
Long Passages:
- Included is a set of longer reading passages that are about 1.5 pages of text.
- At the end of the passage is a graphic organizer template for students to organize their thinking.
- There is also a set of reading comprehension questions that help students understand the text, make connections, think about the text structure, and summarize the text.
- These passages are perfect to use for independent practice or during small group instruction
One Page Passages:
- These one page passages are all written on the same topic so you can have students read all five and then figure out the text structure for each passage.
- There are also three different reading response pages included for these passages so you can utilize them in a variety of ways.
Will my student enjoy reading these passages?
Yes! The topics are fun, engaging, and interesting. Many of the topics are science related so you can easily incorporate them into your science instruction. Here are the list of titles that are included in this set of reading passages.
