These high interest reading task cards will help your students have fun while they practice identifying the main idea of nonfiction passages! This set includes 20 short reading comprehension passages and includes main idea graphic organizers and comprehension questions for each task card. These task cards make it easy to scaffold your instruction and help your students feel comfortable identifying the main idea of each task card.

I know how hard it can be to find fun and engaging reading material that also helps your students master the reading standards. Which is why I created this set of task card. Each task card is written with a clear main idea so you can be confident your students will get plenty of practice with that skill.

HERE’S WHAT YOU GET…

This resource includes 20 main idea task cards. Each task card contains a short nonfiction reading passage (half a page) and is written with a clear main idea. This set also includes a variety of response options (graphic organizers and comprehension questions) so you can find the exact format that will work for your students’ needs.

Option 1: Just the Reading Passages

• You can print the task cards with just the text. This is a great option if you want to use these informational reading passages to teach something other than main idea or if you plan on using them in a traditional task card way.
• There are all three different student response sheets included that you can pair with the task cards.
• There is also a digital version included created Google Slides

Option 2: Reading Passages with Graphic Organizers

• This option needs to be printed front and back.
• One one side students have the reading passage (same as option 1), and on the back there is a graphic organizer that supports students identifying the main idea.
• There is also a digital version included created Google Slides

Option 3: Reading Passages and Comprehension Questions

• This option needs to be printed front and back.
• One side students have the reading passage (same as option 1), and on the other side there is a set of text-based comprehension questions and a space for a sticky note so they can “stop-and-jot” while they read the text.
• This is a great option if you want students to identify the main idea on their own and respond to the comprehension questions.
• There is also a digital version included created Google Slides
