LET’S BREAK DOWN EACH RESOURCE INCLUDED
This bundle has so many great resources for teaching students all about the different reading genres. You could use them all for your genre unit, or you could incorporate them throughout the entire year.
- Genre Anchor Charts/Posters – Includes full-size (8.5×11) posters to use during whole group instruction and also includes half-page templates that are perfect for students to glue in their reading journals. Students love adding these to their reading notebooks and referring back to them throughout the year.
- Genre Reading Passages – Includes 23 reading passages and comprehension response sheets that will help you introduce, teach, or review genre. Each passage is written in a different genre and can serve as a âmentor textâ when you introduce genre. The one-page passages work great for small group lessons, homework, or other parts of your reading block.
- Genre Bookmarks with Question Stems – This is an awesome resource to send home with students. The front of each bookmark includes a description/explanation of each genre/format as well as a list of attributes. On the back, the bookmark provides students with a set of comprehension questions that they can ask when reading that specific genre.
- Genre Graphic Organizers – These graphic organizers are perfect to pair with the reading passages or to make available to students when they are reading any genre. Each template includes a graphic organizer specific to the genre and a set of comprehension questions. Includes paper, digital, and an editable option.
- Word Wall Cards – These genre word wall cards are a great tool to add to your classroom library or to a bulletin board. Word wall cards provide the genre/term, definition, and picture cue. These work great when introducing genres throughout the year.
- Genre Choice Boards – These are a really fun extension activity you can share with your students. Each choice board provides 6 response activities students can complete when reading different genres. This is a great way for them to extend their learning about genre.

TEACHERS LIKE YOU SAIDâŚ
âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸Â Dorothy V. said âThis was exactly what I needed for my genre study! I used this in my ESOL resource classes (I teach 6th, 7th, and 8th). My kids have a rough time using academic language in general and struggle to discuss what they are reading. This is was a great way to easily introduce the different genres and reinforce the lessons over the course of the unit.âÂ
âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸Â Laurie M. said, âWe just completed our first lesson and my students were hooked, and offering each other recommendations for books. They loved the story, and having their own copy of the poster for their reading binder was very useful. The bookmarks were a huge hit, too. We paired it with a genre “shelfie” and they are all excited to read books – even my reluctant readers seemed more interested. Thank you for such a useful resource!â
âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸Â Erin M. said, “This resource includes so much good stuff! The passages have been so nice and I have really enjoyed the graphic organizers.â
âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸Â Alyson G. said, “These were great to incorporate into my classroom. I used the anchor charts on an interactive bulletin board that students could walk up to and learn or relearn when working independently.:
